Roald Dahl Museum’s Explore the Archive: Creative Collaborators Workshop

At Venue
Deep dive into just how creative Roald Dahl was using examples from the archive as part of your school trip to the Roald Dahl Museum.

Key Info

Did you know that Roald Dahl was also a photographer and framer? In this workshop you will discover the various ways that he was creative by doing the same kinds of activities yourself. Learn more about the creative process between Roald Dahl and the illustrators of his books to create gruesome Grunchers and marvellous Muggle-Wumps. Then work together as closely as Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake did to produce a class picture book, with everyone taking different roles to collaborate creatively.

All of the Roald Dahl Museums archive-based workshops use examples from their collection of Roald Dahl’s drafts, letters and notebooks that your group won’t see elsewhere in the Museum. You will visit the galleries but this is for a limited time and the focus of your session will be in their learning space.

You can combine all their workshops with their self-led Village Trail which will allow you to explore Great Missenden and its connections with Roald Dahl.

About Roald Dahl Museum

The Roald Dahl Museum is the perfect place to see the writing process in action by one of its masters. Students will discover how they can use the same techniques themselves and find out more about Roald Dahl’s life while exploring their fun, interactive galleries in one of their facilitated workshops.

Come face-to-face with Fantastic Mr Fox, measure up to your Roald Dahl heroes, pull a power pose next to Matilda and discover Roald Dahl’s famous Writing Hut – the birthplace of your favourite characters – at the Museum of the World’s No.1 Storyteller.

The aim is for your visit to be HANDS-ON, INVESTIGATIVE and EXCITING. Their schools’ programme is delivered by an experienced Learning Team. All of their team hold an Enhanced DBS clearance and regularly review and update their professional skills.

They offer two types of workshops – galleries-based 90 minute workshops, or archive-based 180 minute workshops. Both types are based around a key literacy area which is the focus throughout your visit.
