About The Underground Experience at Dudley Canal and Caverns

Take your students on an unforgettable educational adventure as you journey underground through Dudley’s hidden tunnels. Experience the vast caverns and impressive basins that have shaped the region’s history for over 428 million years.

Step into a magical subterranean world, where sound and light shows bring history to life. As you travel through these remarkable tunnels, be captivated by historic recreations and informative commentary delivered by knowledgeable skippers who will guide you through each step of this extraordinary journey.

Explore the materials that were mined from these tunnels and learn how they contributed to the shaping of the Industrial Revolution. Discover how the mining of these resources played a pivotal role in the development of canal building and transportation.

Marvel at the unique and ancient fossils found deep within the earth, remnants of tropical sea-beds that were once present millions of years ago. These amazing discoveries give students an unparalleled glimpse into the distant past and the geological processes that have shaped our world.

Enhance your classroom lessons with hands-on workshops, designed to immerse you in the history of narrowboats and the Black Country canals. Learn what it was like to live and work on a narrowboat, and uncover how these canals were central to the Industrial Revolution.

Whether you’re enhancing history, geography, or science curricula, this journey underground offers a rich and engaging experience for students and educators alike.

“A brilliant visit! Thank you! Staff were knowledgeable and approachable. The day was well-organised and ran like clockwork.”
