Make the most of an Art and Design School Trip
Seeing Art work in person changes how students respond to it. Scale, texture, and brushwork are difficult to convey in a textbook. Visiting a gallery or studio gives students a direct experience of the artwork and something concrete to observe, reflect on, and draw from when they return to the classroom. Many venues build their school sessions around a hands-on experience, so students leave with work of their own as well as notes and photographs for their sketchbooks. Sessions can be tailored to a theme or a specific exam unit, which makes them useful at every stage from key stage 1 through to sixth form.

How far in advance should I book a school trip?
It depends on the venue, but for popular attractions and theatre shows, booking a term or more ahead is advisable. Some productions and experiences have limited school availability, so the earlier you enquire the better your chances of getting your preferred date.
Do school trip venues offer free places for teachers?
Most school trip destinations offer one free adult place for every ten students booked, though this varies by venue. We include free place information on each trip profile so you know what to expect before you enquire.
Are there school trips that come with free teaching resources?

Are there school trips suitable for primary and secondary students?
