Darlington Hippodrome

The New Hippodrome and Palace Theatre of Varieties opened on September 2, 1907, and the grand Edwardian theatre stands strong as Darlington Hippodrome in 2023. Over 100 years from first opening, surviving through two world wars, two pandemics, and the financial hardships of its creator Signor Rino Pepi, the theatre has changed a lot in some ways, but maintains its Edwardian charm which is seamlessly combined with modern design.

As its first name would suggest, the entertainment offerings at the Hippodrome are varied – from classic plays, modern masterpieces, and everything in between, there’s something for everyone. Not only that, but the theatre has a dedicated Engagement Team who work to ensure that visiting schools have the best experience possible, including distributing education packs, running tours, hiring the discovery boxes, and hosting teacher evenings to give teachers the opportunity to learn more about what the theatre can offer them.
