About National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery in central London is home to the world’s greatest collection of portraits, telling stories of British history, culture and society from the 1500s to the present day.

The National Portrait Gallery’s free Schools programme brings Art and Design and History learning to life through portraiture. Develop students’ enquiry, visual literacy and creative skills with specially designed sessions and resources, for all key stages, as they explore portraits past and present, uncover inspiring stories and make portraits of their own.

Book a Gallery session led by the NPG Schools expert team, use self-led resources to explore exhibitions and displays or join a teacher CPD session.

Visit Schools hub, an ever-growing online hub featuring hundreds of resources, from simple how-to videos and tutorials with artists to step-by-step portrait analysis guides and interviews with leading experts.

Sign up to the Teachers & Schools newsletter and be the first to find out about new sessions and resources for schools.
