The Cast and Creative Team
BAFTA and Olivier Award-winning Kristin Scott Thomas (Electra, Slow Horses, Four Weddings and a Funeral) plays Lyubov Ranevskaya, with Stephen Mangan (The Split, Episodes, The Birthday Party) as Lopakhin.
They’re joined by Ruby Bentall (Industry) as Sharlotta, Megan Cusack (Playboy of the Western World) as Dunyasha, Karl Johnson (King Lear) as Firs, Anastasia Martin (Cold War) as Anya, Noof Ousellam (Macbeth) as Yasha, Jeff Rawle (Shadowlands) as Pishchik, Jack Riddiford (Stereophonic) as Trofimov, Vinette Robinson (Emilia) as Varya, Shubham Saraf (An Enemy of the People) as Yepikhodov and Peter Wight (Three Sisters) as Gaev.
Kathleen Cranham, Rachel Dawson and Fergus Murphy form the travelling band and also understudy. The other understudies are Philip Bosworth, Alex Childs, Paul Easom and Miles Paloma.
The production brings several collaborators back together. Stephen Mangan previously worked with director Ian Rickson on Pinter’s The Birthday Party in 2018. Kristin Scott Thomas played Arkadina in Rickson’s production of The Seagull, which ran in London and on Broadway and won her the Olivier Award for Best Actress. Rickson also reunites with Conor McPherson, who has written this new adaptation. They previously worked together on McPherson’s The Weir in 1997 and Uncle Vanya in 2020.
Alongside Rickson and McPherson, the creative team includes set designer Chloe Lamford, costume designer Sussie Juhlin-Wallén, lighting designer Bruno Poet, sound designer Tom Gibbons, composer Stephen Warbeck, movement director Shelley Maxwell and casting director Amy Ball CDG. It’s produced in the West End by Sonia Friedman Productions and Winkler & Smalberg.
