About

Inspired by Matilda The Musical, this educational resource gives you and your students insight into the process of staging this award-winning musical.

In writing Matilda The Musical Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin created new characters, stories, and songs into Roald Dahl’s novel of Matilda.

How a story is told on stage is very different from a story in a book. Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin share their ideas on how to create good plots for musicals and where they get their ideas from.

This teacher resource pack gives activities for starting to create plot structure around characters and students can see plots in action by playing on the plot-o-meter and deciding for themselves the best ingredients for a good scene.

Use this versatile resource as an introduction for students in Upper Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. Activities are also suitable for more advanced study with GSCE and A-Level students.
