About

The “Black Country Canals and Industry” workshop at Dudley Canal & Caverns offers educators an immersive exploration into the region’s pivotal role during the Industrial Revolution.

This 45-minute, hands-on session is designed to complement the 45-minute underground boat trip, providing a comprehensive understanding of the area’s industrial heritage. Participants delve into the transformation of the Black Country during the Industrial Revolution, understanding how the development of canals facilitated industrial growth and altered the landscape. The workshop encourages active participation through role-playing, object handling, and puzzle-solving activities, allowing attendees to experience the types of jobs people had, their earnings, and living conditions during that era.

This workshop aligns with the  KS1 and KS2 History Programme of Study:  a local history study.
