These workshops will bring learning to life and inspire the imaginations of your students by engaging them in activities based on real artefacts and objects.

Museum of Liverpool at Venue Workshops
Little Liverpool – Early Years & KS1
A fun hands-on workshop from the Museum of Liverpool for early years students to create their own Liverpool.
This workshop will allow students a safe and fun environment to help develop their communication and alphabet skills.
The Museum of Liverpool’s Little Liverpool Gallery is a hands-on world where the students can sail boats and fish for pretend marine creatures and rubbish. Students will be encouraged to investigate, explore and learn.

Toys Through Time
Museum of Liverpool’s interactive and fun workshop educating students on the change and progression of toys throughout history.
This workshop uses original and replica toys from the Museum of Liverpool’s handling collection to examine toys that people in the past played with. Students will look at how toys have changed through time by examining their materials, colours and how they’ve been made.
Students will learn the differences in materials, design and technology and how these provide clues about the age of the toys. Various toys are arranged on a mini timeline based on their materials and technology. Students will get the chance to work together to use their knowledge of materials, technology and design to sort a range of toys into ‘older’ and ‘newer’.

Gateway to the World Workshop
An interactive workshop from the Museum of Liverpool detailing the significance of the River Mersey.
This interactive workshop considers the significance of the River Mersey and Liverpool’s geographical location, and how trade and immigration helped it develop into one of the world’s leading port cities.
Students will discuss when goods, such as cotton, tea and sugar, were first traded in Liverpool, where they came from and what would have happened to the goods after they entered the docks. The geographic location of each trade item will be identified on an interactive whiteboard world map by the demonstrator.

Best Buildings
A creative workshop from The Museum of Liverpool to engage students in Liverpool’s cityscape.
The Maritime Museum’s Best Buildings workshop will encourage students to get creative and develop observational skills in a fun and safe environment.
Students will be encouraged to look closely at ‘The Liverpool Cityscape’ painting and will be asked if they recognise features within the painting including buildings. Additional questioning focuses on colours, patterns, shapes, sounds that might be heard and how students feel about the painting.
Students will be inspired by Ben Johnson’s ‘The Liverpool Cityscape’ painting and the iconic buildings of Liverpool to create a collage to take back to school.

Remembering the First World War
An interactive workshop from the Museum of Liverpool educating students on the local people and animals involved in the First World War.
This workshop uses real and replica objects from the Museum of Liverpool’s handling collection combined with hands on activities to give students an overview of some of the experiences of local people and animals who participated in the First World War.
Students will be able to examine photographs of local soldiers and animals who were involved in the First World War along with real and replica objects in character bags. Changes in battle technology will also be discussed and the devastating impact of these considered.
