The British Library’s Sounds Familiar? Talk

Join Jonnie Robinson, the British Library’s Lead Curator for Spoken English, for a session exploring ways of analysing speech, accent and dialect.

Through this talk, students will learn about language change, language variation, and regional vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar in the UK. Students will be introduced to British accents and dialects, a site that captures and celebrates the diversity of spoken English in the second half of the 20th century, and to collections and research that open up the Library’s sound recordings to teachers, students and researchers.
