Key Info

Explore creative mindfullness.

Have you ever been so engrossed in an activity that you have lost track of time, only concentrating on the activity? That could be described as a form of meditation.

Traditional meditation focusses on the body and breathing, emotions and thoughts. By creating art and focussing only on the process and moment, we can have fun, and forget about the ‘end result’.

Try out these fun activities with your students to incorporate mindfulness and meditation practises into art.

This teaching resource links to Art & Design, plus Citizenship and PSHE when used to discuss mindfulness and mental health. This educational resource can be adapted to suit all ages in KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4 & KS5.

About Victoria Art Gallery

Victoria Art Gallery is the public art museum in Bath. It is run by Bath & North East Somerset Council and houses its collection of paintings, sculpture and decorative arts.

The building was designed in 1897 by John McKean Brydon, and has been designated as a Grade II listed building. The exterior of the building includes a statue of Queen Victoria, by Andrea Carlo Lucchesi, and friezes of classical figures by G. A. Lawson.

The Gallery was named to celebrate Queen Victoria’s sixty years on the throne. It includes over 1,500 decorative arts treasures, including a display of British oil paintings from 17th century to the present day with works by Thomas Gainsborough, Thomas Jones Barker and Walter Sickert.
