About Horniman Museum and Gardens

Dedicated workshops or free self-led visits.

33 different workshops to help engage your students.

Free travel for London schools.

Thousands of school, HE and home educated learners visit the Horniman each year, to explore and learn from their incredible collections and beautiful gardens.

A visit to the Horniman is a wonderful way to enrich your pupils’ education, and to apply classroom learning in a new environment.

You can explore our free Galleries, Gardens and Animal Walk with your classes, or book to visit our Aquarium, Temporary Exhibition and Butterfly House at a reduced educational rate. Please note that our Natural History Gallery is now closed for redevelopment, and will reopen in 2026. The rest of the Museum and Gardens is open as usual.

Enhance your group’s learning by booking one of our exciting, curriculum-linked object handling workshops, or book an outdoor workshop exploring our beautiful Gardens and pond.

University and PGCE students, and teachers can discover more about our learning programmes, object-based learning, and how to enhance learning through Museum visits with our Learning at the Horniman sessions.

Not able to visit us? Our Learning Officers can bring our workshops and amazing objects live into your classroom with our virtual sessions and events.
