Inspired by Matilda The Musical, this educational video gives you and your students insight into the process of staging this award-winning musical.

In writing Matilda The Musical Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin created new characters, stories, and songs into Roald Dahl’s novel of Matilda.

The film give insights into how the musical was created and shows how the storylines differ between the novel and the musical. Tim Minchin also talks about how they brought these characters to life for the stage.

Use this versatile resource as an introduction for students in Upper Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. Activities are also suitable for more advanced study with GSCE and A-Level students.

Matilda The Musical is the multi-award winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company, inspired by the beloved book by the incomparable Roald Dahl.

With book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, Matilda The Musical is the story of an extraordinary little girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

Winner of 99 international awards, including 24 for Best Musical, Matilda has been playing at the Cambridge Theatre in London’s West End for over a decade, where it continues to delight audiences of all ages.
