About

Make a hand book!

During lockdown Birmingham-based artist Sarah Taylor Silverwood reflected on the process of making Hand Books, an ongoing series of small artist books and animations. In her film she demonstrates the process of creating a folded book, using black ink on watercolour paper and the subsequent animation of these drawings. Sarah was inย residence in our Artistsโ€™ Studio in 2014ย and her solo exhibitionย โ€˜Daphneโ€™ย took place between 19 January โ€“ 12 May 2019. Artworks by the artist, โ€˜The Garman Ryan Shroudโ€™, and,ย โ€˜Kathleen and Sally seriesโ€™ย form part of the Galleryโ€™s permanent collection.

This educational video is part of The New Art Gallery Walsall’s INSIGHTS series. This new series of films, created during lockdown, aims to provide access to artists and makers for an insight into their particular skills and techniques.
