About.

The beautiful Cathedral building is full of, and has inspired, art & craft for hundreds of years.

St Albans Cathedral runs a variety of workshops which draw inspiration from this. These include Clay Tiles, Roman Mosaics, Stained Glass, Brass Rubbing and Illuminated Lettering. At the end of each workshop, all students will have produced a piece of art to take back to school with them.

Most schools combine two activities, usually a trail and a workshop, to make a whole day of their visit. Trails include drama and costumes to help pupils develop their learning, whilst most workshops allow them to create a piece of artwork to take home at the end of the visit. St Albans Cathedral Learning Department offers an award-winning school program, with options for guided, worksheet and self-guided visits to the Cathedral, as well as virtual and outreach activities.

Covering a range of curriculum areas, they offer activities for students of all Key Stages including teaching about Romans, Saxons, Medieval, Tudors, Victorians, RE and learning about the Christian Faith, as well as Maths and Science.

Using role play, artefacts, experiential learning and the building itself, students encounter the stories and history of St Albans Cathedral and learn in new and inspiring ways through a variety of trails and workshops. A fascinating and thought-provoking day in this magnificent setting can provide new skills, deeper understanding and a stimulus for further study.
