The British Library’s Making Artists’ Books Workshop
About
What is an artist’s book? And why are they made?
Whilst an artist’s book can be a work of art in book form, it can also experiment with that form. Discover the wonder of these unique objects in this hands-on workshop for Key Stage 2 students. Led by art specialists, learners will create their own artist book to take back to the classroom.
In the first part of the session, learners will be introduced to The British Library’s unique collection of books created by women artists on display in their Treasures of the British Library gallery. Developing critical thinking and visual literacy skills, they will look at how artists have used experimentation and imagination to break the mould of the traditional book form.
The second half of the workshop will see students take part in a making activity to create an artist book. They will experiment with a range of art and design techniques including folding, printing embossing and collage.
