The London Archives’ Medicine through Time Workshop

At Venue
What can documents at The London Archives tell us about how London has responded to public health crises in the past?

Key Info

Focussing on a variety of epidemics affecting London and beyond, students will closely examine documents such as charts, maps, guidance pamphlets, health returns, films and oral histories to build a picture of the ways in which the government has reacted to outbreaks of contagious disease.

By examining strategies such as prevention, isolation and education, they will consider how the documents which have been created and collected in the past, go on to inform not just how we understand these histories, but how we might choose to select and preserve archival materials for the future.

About The London Archives

Following an exciting redevelopment of their learning programme, The London Archives are thrilled to introduce their new range of engaging and in-depth learning sessions for primary and secondary school students.

Each session supports the history curriculum at KS1 to KS4 showcasing their unique collection of historical documents and providing structured and well-paced activities designed to develop history enquiry skills, build confidence working with primary sources and support learning back in the classroom.

Led by experienced history facilitators, their free two-hour sessions allow students to get inspired by London’s past!

A lunch space is available to use for 30 minutes after morning workshops. Schools coming for afternoon workshops are asked to eat before arriving.
