The School Trip | Guides

Into The Woods is heading to the West End, and the first wave of casting has just been confirmed. Kate Fleetwood returns as the Witch, alongside original Bridge Theatre cast members Jo Foster and Gracie McGonigal, as the production transfers to the Noël Coward Theatre this autumn. Previews begin on 22nd September, with the show officially opening on 7th October and currently booking until 9th January 2027. This marks Into The Woods’ first West End outing in three decades, and the first West End transfer for The Bridge Theatre itself.

What to Expect on Your School Trip

The Olivier award-winning Best Musical Revival, fresh from a celebrated run at The Bridge Theatre, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine‘s “stunning” (The Times) Into The Woods transfers to the West End this September.

Directed by Jordan Fein (Fiddler on the Roof), with set and costume design by Tom Scutt (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club), this joyful, witty production has been hailed as “a triumphant musical mash-up of fairytales” (The Standard). Kate Fleetwood reprises her celebrated performance as the Witch. Sondheim and Lapine’s musical brings together the Baker and his wife, a Witch with a curse, a boy and his cow, a girl in a red cloak, a maiden with long hair and a servant covered in cinders, all journeying deep into the woods. Into The Woods opens for a strictly limited run at the Noël Coward Theatre from 22nd September, presented by London Theatre Company in association with Jamie Wilson Productions.

Into The Woods’ West End Transfer Cast

Joining previously announced Witch Kate Fleetwood are Valda Aviks (Grandmother/Giant), Geoffrey Aymer (Cinderella’s Father), Jo Foster (Jack), Jennifer Hepburn (Cinderella’s Stepmother and Alternate Witch), Hana Ichijo (Lucinda), Julie Jupp (Jack’s Mother), Gabrielle Lewis-Dodson (Florinda) and Gracie McGonigal (Little Red Ridinghood), with Jacob Fowler and Sophie Linder-Lee as standbys. Full casting is yet to be announced.

All are returning from the acclaimed run at The Bridge Theatre, which picked up Best Ensemble or Cast and Best Designer at the Critics’ Circle Awards, and Best Musical Revival and Best Lighting Design at the Olivier Awards. This is Into The Woods’ first major London production since 2016, following earlier productions at the Phoenix Theatre, the Donmar and Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
