We The Curious is a science centre and educational charity, located in the heart of Bristol’s historic harbourside.
A school trip here is all about bringing the curriculum to life, building confidence and inspiring scientific thinking. It’s also full of fun, with a strong emphasis on play and visitor-led experiential learning.
Students can explore two floors of interactive exhibits about the world around us, including food, flight, the human body, illusions, time, rainbows, illness and much more.
A visit to the exhibition floors can be combined with practical STEM workshops or longer theme days in the classrooms and fully equipped laboratories, as well as entertaining science shows in the studio and the UK’s only 3D planetarium.
Trips are suitable for all ages and Key Stages from early years through to post-16. Workshops cover a wide range of topics, from fossils to forensics and coding to climate change.
Science That Doesn’t Feel Like a Lesson
We The Curious reopened on 2nd July 2024, two years after a fire forced it to close. Following essential building works to repair the roof and heating and cooling systems, the venue returned with its hands-on approach to science at the heart of the experience. Topics range from space and the solar system to natural disasters, ecology and evolution, light and sound, coding and engineering, each with its own hands-on treatment across the workshops and exhibition floors. That range is what makes it such a strong fit for a science-focused trip: a KS1 class exploring the senses and a Year 11 physics group can both find something that lines up with what they’re covering back in the classroom.
We The Curious links to biology, chemistry, physics, computing, geography, maths and psychology, with STEM running through almost everything on site. As a charity, the venue exists to get people playing and experimenting with science rather than just observing it, and that ethos comes through in how hands-on the exhibits are. The UK’s only 3D planetarium adds a genuine extra, whether that’s a seasonal stargazing show or a closer look at space and the solar system for an astronomy topic.
Why Book It for Your Next Science Trip
We The Curious works for every stage from EYFS through to KS5, suited to ages 3 to 18. If you only need general admission, student tickets start from £8.50. Required adults go free, with ratios varying by age group, and additional adults are £8.50.
Schools with an above-average proportion of students eligible for Free School Meals get half price admission, worth flagging to your finance team early on.
School trip rates are available Tuesday to Friday during term time, with opening hours of 10am to 5pm. Booking itself runs on a rolling basis, so there’s no fixed term to plan around. There’s no minimum group size for admission or the planetarium, though workshops and science shows need at least 15 students.
