Did you know that February 2nd is World Wetlands Day? The theme this year is ‘Wetlands and human wellbeing’ so what better time to let you know about WWT’s curriculum and wellbeing-focused school visits?
What is World Wetlands Day?
World Wetlands Day is celebrated each year on 2nd February to raise awareness about wetlands.
Why World Wetlands Day?
We are losing wetlands three times faster than forests. Yet, wetlands provide homes for wildlife, help prevent climate change and flooding, clean our water and make us feel happy.
It’s important to raise awareness about wetlands to our next generations in order to restore and conserve them and reverse their rapid loss.
About WWT
WWT are one of the UK’s leading providers of outdoor, nature-based learning. They run a learning programme across seven of their wetland centres (see below), welcoming over 45,000 learners per year. Their curriculum- linked learning sessions make the most of the fantastic wildlife and outdoor environments and are suitable for a range of ages and abilities.
Meanwhile, their wellbeing sessions use mindfulness, storytelling and sensory approaches to improve children’s wellbeing whilst inspiring a love of nature.
Eligible schools can also take part in Generation Wild, their free nature connection programme for schools in disadvantaged areas. Qualifying criteria for this programme are based on the percentage of pupils eligible for free school meals and vary by centre, so please check the Generation Wild website to check if your school is eligible.
